HOLY DOÑA (2019)

Pedra performs as Doña Pepa to reimagine the crucifixion as a queer performance ritual. Pablo draws on their experience in Catholic school and seminary, while mining the theatricality of drag, burlesque, and Catholic mass, to crucify Doña Pepa for her piggy sins to ultimately be pardoned in this high-contrast spectacle. The powerful ensemble of six performers exorcises repression in a search of full individual self-expression.

Commissioned and premiered by Red Eye Theater's New Works 4 Weeks at the Tek Box (June 2019). Pedro and Timmy performed a duet version of the early work of this piece at the 1st Colloquium about Men+ and masculinities in San Juan, Puerto Rico, October 2018. In October 2019 Pedra and Timmy performed it also at Lion's Jaw Festival in Massachusetts.
