Contact Fundamentals and Partnering
With over 15 years of Contact Improvisation experience, Timmy Rehborg’s teaching focuses on listening to one’s body in concert with the fluidity of the bodies around oneself. Playful weight-sharing explorations enable all participants to discover new information about themselves, and find new techniques of staying grounded while pushing against perceived physical and gendered limitations.
Neurology and Touch
Lelis Brito has dedicated her life to disseminate the importance of touch and movement in everyone’s lives by teaching somatic-based movement practices. Her knowledge, around the critical nature of touch in childhood development and its importance in the neurological pathway-generation process throughout our lives, provides holistic and healing experiences for everyone.
Acting Fundamentals and Social Justice
Theater professor, Dr. Beliza Torres Narváez has an extensive curriculum of warm-ups and activities geared to open up our minds and bodies for character invention and development. Her teaching shares histories and practices from past and current social justice theatrical movements from around the globe. Grounded in the interconnectedness of social resistance through performance, she will discuss examples from Noche Bomba and Holy Doña within her personal performative research beyond Viva La Pepa.
States of Noche Bomba
Pedro Pablo Lander guides participants through the rapid physical, emotional, and energetic states within the choreographic material in Noche Bomba. The class cultivates an inner desire to resist and revolt. Using voice and movement with expressions of sensuality and sexuality, we experience joy in oneself and savor the skin we live in.
Glitter and Lightning
With over 35 years of dance experience to draw from, Genevieve Draškocí ’s teaching offers a richness in the classics (Jazz and Ballet) with a strong twist of personal flare. She will drive exciting and athletic warm ups and movement combinations to condition the body and challenge coordination, timing, and form.
Composition with Pedro Pablo Lander
This workshop focuses on mining individual stories and heightening one’s sense of self, to create unique movement and spoken vocabularies. Improvisational exercises (exhaustion, repetition, disorientation) facilitate building themes and patterns relevant in identifying each participant’s perspectives and aesthetics.
