A multi-year, transnational collaboration of Celia Argüello & Pedra Pepa

This project presents itself as a research linked to performance how-to from the movement language. It surges from the eclectic combination of both artists, in hand with the collected materials in the territory through the self-managed residencies in 3 vastly different landscapes. Conceptually, it works from the philosophical idea of the body as liminal territory and its cartographic relationship with the world.

Gallery Exhibition // Performance

Archive/imprint. Roots/connection across.  This work explores viewership/control; sovereignty/freedom. Fear, chest, throat, voice, guts. In Nature: body, jungle, re-becoming, constant transforming. Dematerialization of the body towards liberation. Tracking transborder journeys, grounding in Guna Yala, May 2022. Generating experiential shared space and time.

Holy Doña (2019)

Pedra draws on their experience in Catholic school and seminary, while mining the theatricality of drag, burlesque, and Catholic mass, to crucify Doña Pepa for her piggy sins to ultimately be pardoned in this high-contrast spectacle.

Noche Bomba (2018)

Interweaving performative forms to create potent imagery on stage, Pedra’s personal gender evolution is revealed and supported by a cast of seven performers as they navigate themes steeped in tightly-bound and deeply-rooted Venezuelan/Latinx machismo.
